| Given: m (Zn) = 5 g;
Find: m (ZnCl2) -?
1. Let’s write the equation of interaction of hydrochloric acid with zinc:
2HCl + Zn = ZnCl2 + H2 ↑;
2.Calculate the chemical amount of zinc:
n (Zn) = m (Zn): M (Zn) = 5: 65 = 0.0769 mol;
3. according to the reaction equation, 1 mol of zinc gives 1 mol of zinc chloride:
n (ZnCl2) = n (Zn) = 0.0769 mol;
4.Calculate the mass of the zinc chloride obtained:
m (ZnCl2) = n (ZnCl2) * M (ZnCl2);
M (ZnCl2) = 65 + 2 * 35.5 = 100.5 g / mol;
m (ZnCl2) = 0.0769 * 100.5 = 7.73 g.
Answer: 7.73 g.
