Calculate the volume of ammonia that can be obtained by the interaction of ammonium chloride
Calculate the volume of ammonia that can be obtained by the interaction of ammonium chloride weighing 10.7 g and calcium hydroxide weighing 8 g.
This reaction proceeds according to the following chemical reaction equation:
2NH4Cl + CaO = 2NH3 + CaCl2;
Let’s calculate the chemical amount of ammonium chloride. To do this, we divide its weight by its molar mass.
M NH4Cl = 14 + 4 + 35.5 = 53.5 grams / mol;
The amount of ammonium chloride will be:
N NH4 Cl = 10.7 / 53.5 = 0.2 mol;
Find the chemical amount of calcium oxide. For this purpose, we divide its weight by its molar mass.
M CaO = 40 + 16 = 56 grams / mol;
The amount of oxide will be:
N CaO = 8/56 = 0.143 mol;
With 0.2 mol of ammonium chloride, 0.2 / 2 = 0.1 mol of calcium oxide will react. This will synthesize 0.2 mol of ammonia.
Let’s define its volume. To do this, multiply the amount of substance by the standard volume of 1 mole of gas (filling 22.40 liters)
V NH3 = 0.2 x 22.4 = 4.48 liters;
