1. Let’s compose the equation of the chemical reaction:
Na2CO3 + 2 HCl = 2 NaCl + CO2 + H2O
As a result of the reaction, carbon dioxide is formed – CO2
According to the equation, sodium carbonate and carbon dioxide are taken in an amount of 1 mol.
Let’s find the mass of Na2CO3 by the formula:
m (Na2CO3) = n * M = 1 mol * (23 * 2 + 12 + 16 * 3) = 106 g
Let’s find the volume of CO2 using the formula:
V (CO2) = Vm * n = 22.4 L / mol * 1 mol = 22.4 L
2. Let’s calculate the volume of carbon dioxide, making up the proportion:
20 g Na2CO3 – xl CO2
106 g Na2CO3 – 22.4 l CO2
Hence, x = 20 * 22.4 / 106 = 4.2 liters.
