1. Let’s compose the equation of the chemical reaction:
CH4 + O2 = CO2 + H2O.
2. Find the chemical amount of methane (Vm – molar volume, constant equal to 22.4 l / mol):
224 m3 = 224000 l.
n (CH4) = V (CH4) / Vm = 224000 L / 22.4 L / mol = 10000 mol.
3. According to the reaction equation, we find the amount and then the volume of oxygen:
n (O2) = n (CH4) = 10000 mol.
V (O2) = n (O2) * Vm = 10000 * 22.4 l / mol 224000 l.
4. Find the volume of air:
V (air) = V (O2) * 100% / ω (O2) = 224000 * 100% / 21% = 106666 l = 106.7 m3.
Answer: V (air) = 106.7 m3.
