Can a plant live without roots?

Yes, many plants are able to live without roots. Many plant species have no roots at all. For example – algae, mosses. Also, unicellular plants have no roots. But some higher plants that have a root system in their structure can survive after cutting off the roots. Moreover, many species are capable of growing roots again. But trees generally die very quickly without roots. Herbaceous plants are capable of growing new roots on their own. Some species must have water for this.
