Can air be used in a hydraulic press instead of water?

A hydraulic press works according to Pascal’s law, and this law applies to both liquids and gases. However, it will not work to replace liquid with gas in a particular machine, since the liquid is practically not compressed and “transmit” pressure much better.
It is certainly possible to create a machine similar to a hydraulic press, but running on gas.
