Can conditioned reflexes fade, and why?

A conditioned reflex occurs in a person upon the appearance of some experience. For example – jerking your hand away from a hot frying pan or quickly pressing the brake pedal at the sight of a sudden obstacle on the road. But conditioned reflexes can be suppressed. For example – a person can ignore the pain from a hot frying pan so as not to throw it on the floor, but put it on the table. These reflexes are controlled. But unconditioned reflexes cannot be suppressed on their own. This can only be done with medications that affect the brain or nervous system.
