Can myths be considered historical sources?

The content of myths in no way can be a historical source due to their discrepancy with scientific points of view, however, the myths themselves can provide scientists with a good springboard for research. Myths can reflect socio-cultural relations in a particular historical period, reveal in more detail the religious beliefs of certain people.
