Can the 20th century unequivocally be called the century of progress and the triumph of reason?

In the 20th century, mankind has made a huge leap forward in development. Numerous important discoveries have been made in all areas. But despite all the achievements, it is impossible to unequivocally call this period a triumph of progress and reason, since many inventions of the 20th century were aimed at the destruction, destruction of both individual people and the entire human civilization as a whole. For example, the creation of chemical drugs, environmental pollution, artificial food can hardly be called progressive phenomena, and the invention of new types of weapons (chemical, biological, nuclear) is reasonable.
