Carry out a chain of transformations: N2-NH3-NO2-HNO3-KNO3-O2- NO2

1) To obtain ammonia, it is necessary to carry out a reaction between nitrogen and hydrogen:

N2 + 3H2 → 2NH3;

2) The reaction of obtaining nitrogen (IV) oxide from ammonia occurs in two stages:

4NH3 + 5O2 → 4NO + 6H2O;

2NO + O2 → 2NO2;

3) Nitrogen oxide (IV) reacts with oxygen and water, and concentrated nitric acid is formed:

4NO2 + O2 + 2H2O (horizontal) → 4HNO3 (conc.);

4) In the process of the exchange reaction between potassium hydroxide and nitric acid, potassium nitrate and water are obtained:

KOH + HNO3 → KNO3 + H2O;

5) Potassium nitrate decomposes into potassium nitrite and oxygen when exposed to temperatures from 400 – 520 ° C:

2KNO3 → 2KNO2 + O2;

6) Oxygen reacts with nitrogen (II) oxide and forms – nitrogen (IV) oxide:

2NO + O2 → 2NO2.
