Carry out the transformation: SO2 – SO3 – H2SO4 – Na2SO4 – BaSO4 Mg – MgO – Mg (OH) 2 – MgCL2 – Mg (OH) 2
A) 1) When sulfur (IV) oxide interacts with oxygen, we obtain sulfur oxide (VI):
2SO2 + O2 → 2SO3;
2) Sulfur oxide (VI) reacts with water and it turns out – sulfuric acid:
SO3 + H2O → H2SO4;
3) In the process of the exchange reaction of sulfuric acid with sodium hydroxide, sodium sulfate and water are formed:
H2SO4 + 2NaOH → Na2SO4 + 2H2O;
4) Sodium sulfate reacts with sodium hydroxide, it turns out – a precipitate of barium sulfate and sodium hydroxide:
Na2SO4 + Ba (OH) 2 → BaSO4 ↓ + 2NaOH.
B) 1) Magnesium reacts with oxygen, and we get – magnesium oxide:
2Mg + O2 → 2MgO;
2) To obtain magnesium hydroxide from its oxide, it is necessary to add water to the oxide:
MgO + H2O → Mg (OH) 2;
3) Sodium hydroxide reacts with hydrochloric acid, it turns out – magnesium chloride and water:
Mg (OH) 2 + 2HCl → MgCl2 + 2H2O;
4) Magnesium chloride reacts with sodium hydroxide, formed – magnesium hydroxide and sodium chloride:
MgCl2 + 2NaOH → Mg (OH) 2 + 2NaCl.
