Let’s write the equations:
2CH4 = C2H2 + 3H2 – cracking of methane, acetylene is formed;
C2H2 + H2O = H2C = CH – OH = H3C – CHO – hydration of acetylene, an intermediate product of vinyl alcohol is formed, which, after isomerization, turns into ethanal, Kucherov’s reaction;
Н3С – СНО + 2Cu (OH) 2 = CH3 – COOH + Cu2O + H2O – oxidation of ethanal with copper hydroxide occurs upon heating, ethanic acid is obtained;
CH3 – COOH + C2H5 – OH = CH3COO – C2H5 + H2O – esterification occurs when heated, sulfuric acid is added, in order to separate water from ether, ethyl acetate is released.
