1) Ethylene and hydrogen are formed from two methane molecules:
2CH4 → C2H4 + 3H2 ↑;
2) Ethylene, when interacting with water, gives – ethanol:
C2H4 + H2O → C2H5OH;
3) Ethanol decomposes into acetaldehyde and hydrogen:
C2H5OH → CH3CHO + H2 ↑;
4) Acetic aldehyde reacts with silver oxide, in the process of this
CH3CHO + Ag2O → CH3COOH + 2Ag ↓.
