Chemical properties of Alkanes.

Alkanes are linear or branched acyclic hydrocarbons containing only simple bonds and forming a homologous series with the general formula CnH2n + 2.
Alkanes have low reactivity. This is because single C – H and C – C bonds are relatively strong and difficult to break.
Chemical reaction.
1. Reaction of radical substitution: halogenation, sulfochlorotination, nitration.
2. Oxidation reaction.
3. Thermal transformation reaction.
