Chemical properties of metals

In this task you need to describe the chemical properties of metals.

The order of this task
Write down the characteristics of the metals;
Write down the chemical properties of the metals;
Reaction equations with metals.
Metals are as follows
Metals can be attributed to the group of simple substances, which are characterized by metallic properties, namely, high heat and electrical conductivity, positive temperature coefficient of resistance, as well as high malleability, ductility and metallic luster.
A characteristic property for all metals, except for mercury and France, is that under normal conditions they have a solid state, while possessing different hardness.

Tell us about the chemical properties of metals
Most metals are characterized by the fact that they have a small number of electrons at the outer levels. Due to this, they often act as reducing agents (this means that they are able to donate electrons).

Reacts with simple substances.
Almost all metals react with oxygen, except for the following: gold, platinum metals.

4K + O2 = 2K2O.

2Na + O2 = Na2O2.

The following react with nitrogen: active metals. Lithium is characterized by a reaction at room temperature. The reactions result in the formation of nitrides.

6K + N2 = 2K3N.

Most metals react with sulfur, apart from the following: gold and platinum.

Iron is characterized by a reaction with sulfur when heated to form sulfide.

Fe + S = FeS.

Carbon is characterized by reactions with highly active metals. The result is the formation of acetylenides or methanides.

2Na + 2C = Na2C2.

Interact with acids.
Reactions with metals that are in the electrical activity range of metals to hydrogen.

Mg + 2HCl = MgCl2 + H2.

Reactions with concentrated sulfuric acid.

Cu + 2H2SO4 = CuSO4 + SO2 + 2H2O.

The reaction with dilute sulfuric acid proceeds as usual.

Mg + H2SO4 = MgSO4 + H2.
