Chemical reaction in molecular and ionic form: H2SO4 + HNO3 =

2H2SO4 + HNO= H3O+ + NO2+ + 2HSO4

This reaction of the interaction of anhydrous sulfuric acid (H2SO4) with anhydrous nitric acid (HNO3) is called nitration. As a result of the reaction, several different substances are obtained, which are collectively called a nitrating mixture. This mixture is used for nitration of organic substances, in particular aliphatic compounds, as well as in the synthesis of nitroamino compounds.
