Classification of acids and their physical properties.

Classification of acids by their strength (degree of ionization):

Strong acids. Acids that are fully ionized in water. Their aqueous solution is highly conductive and are considered to be strong electrolytes. Examples: acid hydroxide HI, hydrochloric acid HCl, hydrobromic acid HBr, sulfuric acid H2SO4, nitric acid HNO3 and perchloric acid HClO4.

Weak acids. Acids that are not fully ionized in water. Their aqueous solution conducts electricity to a small extent, they are considered weak electrolytes. Examples: carboxylic acid H2CO3, phosphoric acid H3PO4, acetic acid (vinegar) CH3COOH, formic acid, citric acid, oxalic acid and lactic acid.
