Its equatorial location and the presence of a high and long mountain range in the west make South America the warmest and wettest continent. Most of it is covered by equatorial and tropical zones. Only the extreme south falls into the temperate zone, but this is a very small area. Moisture from the ocean constantly moves to the mainland, and a high level of precipitation permeates huge and fruitful rivers, including the widest Amazon, Parana, La Plata, etc. There are few lakes, of which only two are significant in the Andes.
