Combustion of methane and propene in air.

In the chemical reaction of combustion of methane and propene in air, as a result of this chemical reaction, we obtain carbon dioxide – CO2 and water – H2O.

Methane has a chemical formula – CH4, propene, not a side-side hydrocarbon, – CH2 = CH-CH3 (C3H6). Consider both of these reactions:

CH4 + 2 O2 = CO2 + 2 H2O

C3H6 + 3 O2 = 3 CO2 + 3 H2O.

As we can see in both the first and the second chemical reactions, we end up with water and tetravalent carbon monoxide.
