Compare Lutheranism and Calvinism. Identify the similarities and differences.

Similarities:

1) Were opponents of the Catholic Church;

2) Advocated for the reorganization of the church and worship;

3) the Church could not provide salvation to man;

4) Advocated for work, modesty, moderation.

Differences:

1) For the Calvinists, the church was subordinate to the community, and among the Lutherans – to the king;

2) Calvinists rejected the sacrament, and the Lutherans recognized the sacrament of baptism and communion;

3) Calvinists believed in predestination, while Lutherans believed that salvation is possible through faith.

The number of followers of Calvinism is 50 million. The number of followers of Lutheranism is 85 million.
