| Sporophyte and gametophyte are the life forms of spore plants, constantly alternating in their life cycle. Fern sporophyte is a leafy plant, that is, the fern itself. On the underside of its leaves, sporangia form in spring in which spores mature. Ferns spread by spores.
The spore grows and forms a small green plate – a gametophyte, on the inner side of which gametes are formed. Fertilization takes place with water. A sporophyte is formed from the zygote.
