Ancient Sparta and Athens had slaves, however, their position was slightly different. In ancient Sparta, slaves could have their own home and their own family. In ancient Athens, slaves were deprived of this luxury. There the slaves lived in the houses of their masters. But on the other hand, the slaves of Sparta often raised armed uprisings. In addition, a Spartan could easily kill an helot and not be punished.
