Compare the slash and burn farming system to the threefields. What is the reason for the transition to the three-field?

Historians know that the ancient Eastern Slavs used the slash-and-burn technique in agriculture.

During slash-and-burn agriculture, trees were cut down, and after a year they were burned. The roots were uprooted and the land was plowed. In the same year, the grain was sown in ash, and she gave a rich harvest for several years (from five to eight). After the soil resource was depleted, and the land was abandoned for many years.

Over time, the Slavs switched to the type of agriculture – threefields. Three-field is a system of crop rotation with alternation (fallow, winter, spring).

The transition to the threefields is connected with the fact that with this method there was no need to constantly change the fields, and hence the place of residence.
