Compare the varna system with the social structure of Babylonian society according to the laws of Hammurabi

In the state of Hammurabi, we see a simpler social structure. In the Old Babylonian kingdom, we see three main social categories – free, semi-free, and slaves. The bulk of the population is made up of free people who have relatively equal rights and own property. There is no clear division of responsibilities between them, and their status is not sacralized. While Indian varnas are strictly distributed according to functions, and their nature and relationships are fixed in religion.
