Comparison of the palace coup and the reign of Catherine 2.

Catherine I was the wife of Peter I, after whose death there were two contenders for the throne: Catherine I herself and her grandson Peter. Two groups were formed at the court, each of which supported its own candidate. While the Preobrazhensky and Semyonovsky regiments had already taken the side of Catherine, the Senate continued to discuss who, after all, to put on the throne.
Soon Catherine I won the fight, but her favorites, who thought only about money, actually became the head of the country. A Supreme Privy Council was created, which limited the power of the Senate. The empress’s associates entered it. That is, there were no important transformations in the country at that time at all.
