Protozoa are single-celled organisms that live in water or damp places. One of them is the amoeba. Although it is just one cell, it has adaptations that allow it to behave like an animal:

it gives rise to pseudopodia (“false legs”) that allow movement;
pseudopodia can surround food and take it inside the cell;
contractile vacuoles appear in the cell, then merge with the surface to remove waste.
