Convert a two-variable linear equation -4x + 2y = 6 to a linear function

In order to transform a linear equation with two variables -4x + 2y = 6 to the form of a linear function y = kx + b, we will apply a number of identical transformations.

Let’s start by transferring -4x to the right side of the equation and at the same time we must change the sign of the term to the opposite:

-4x + 2y = 6;

2y = 6 + 4x;

Now we need to get rid of the 2 in front of the variable. To do this, we divide both sides of the equation by 2 and get:

2y = 6 + 4x | : 2;

y = 3 + 2x;

y = 2x + 3.

Answer: y = 2x + 3 linear function.
