Could China, with its tradition, deliver modernization?

For China, such a phenomenon as modernization was, in principle, very difficult, because, unlike Japan, this empire could not, due to public opinion and the mentality of the Chinese, carry out rapid and significantly changing the situation in the state. Japan was more inclined to this, while the Japanese have always borrowed the most important and, in their opinion, important innovations from their neighbors, and from the whole world. The Chinese, on the other hand, are quite conservative people, which relies heavily on Tradition, so such transformations could take place, but not always successfully.
