During this period, the country was ruled by the XII-XVII Egyptian dynasties, which, after the conquest, retained their influence in the southern part and Thebes. The Hyksos were able to form their own dynasties (XV and XVI), which ruled in parallel with the Egyptian pharaohs. The war of liberation against the Hyksos was started by King Seknenra of the 17th dynasty, continued by his son Kamos, and the final victory over the Hyksos was won by the first pharaoh of the 18th dynasty Ahmose I. Pharaoh Thutmose I was the third pharaoh of the 18th dynasty and by the time of his reign the Hyksos had already been expelled from Ancient Egypt I , therefore, he could not participate in the war against them.
