Could the First World War have been prevented?
The conflict of the First World War has been brewing since the time of the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. Then France was defeated and also lost part of its territories. Naturally, in this case, a new war was only a matter of time. To all this, Prussia wanted to further expand its influence in Europe, and finally defeat France by capturing its territories. Austria-Hungary wanted to seize Serbia. The Russian Empire, in turn, wanted to establish its dominion in the Black Sea … The list of reasons why the First World War would start can be continued for a very long time. The murder of Franz Ferdinant served only as a pretext for declaring war, and so the countries of Europe have long been divided into two opposing camps (the Entente and the Quarter Alliance).
