Derive the features of the political development of Japan in the 17-18 centuries.

This period went down in Japanese history as the Tokugawa shogunate. Its beginning can be traced back to 1603, but it ended only in 1868. The features of the period are as follows:

The capital was Edo Castle (on the territory of modern Tokyo).
The emperor’s power was severely limited, he was in Kyoto.
In addition to the shogun, there were such ranks as the regent and the first minister.
In Kyoto and Osaka, there was a local ruler (gundai).
The society was feudal and estate: daimyo (princes), samurai (service people), peasants (the majority), artisans and merchants.
The country lived in isolation (the period was called “Sakoku”) since the 1630s, contacts with Europeans were minimal, the Dutch had a trading post in the Nagasaki region. Relations with Portugal were severed, Christians were executed.
