Describe the adaptation to the lack of water in the environment in plants and animals. Give examples.

In plants: a powerful root system, increased osmotic pressure, which contributes to the retention of water in tissues, the cuticle of the leaf is thickened, the leaf blade is reduced or turned into thorns, sometimes the leaves are lost. In the absence of water, the growth of desert plants stops. Cacti store water in tissues and use it sparingly. There are ephemeral plants that, after a short period of flowering, shed their leaves, keeping only the bulbs and rhizomes until the next growing season.
In animals: Many people extract water from food. The source of water is also the fat that accumulates in some (camel’s hump). Rodents, turtles hibernate for several months.
