Describe the appearance of the first organisms, what characteristics do they possess?

It is believed that the first organisms did not use DNA and proteins, but were based on RNA (ribonucleic acid). Most likely, at first these were multiplying RNA molecules dissolved in water. They settled in microcavities of minerals, and therefore did not dissolve in the ocean. Over time, however, they had lipid membranes around them, cells were formed, RNA was replaced by DNA and proteins, and became only an intermediary in the transfer of gene information to create proteins.
