Describe the English Parliament

The final parliament in England was formed in 1295. It consisted of 2 chambers: Lords and Commons. In the first, barons and prelates sat, and in the second, knights and citizens from the city.

Parliament performed the following functions:

Financial. It consisted in the appointment of taxes.
Legislative. After the laws were passed by parliament and the king, it was no longer possible to repeal them without the consent of both chambers.
Control. It consisted in the form of initiation of charges against illegal actions of state officials.
At present, the basis of the parliament has remained the same. This institution is represented by two chambers and a monarch. The latter has the right to dissolve parliament.

Parliamentary control is now represented by the House of Commons and the government is accountable to it.
