Describe the main groups of countries in the world by the level of their industrial development at the beginning of the 20th century. What place did Russia take among them?
At the beginning of the 20th century, three groups of countries in terms of industrial development could be distinguished:
-Developed. By 1914, the United States was the leader, while the British Empire, the 19th century factory of the world, remained in second place. The German Empire was catching up with her. France was slightly inferior to her. Belgium, Holland and Sweden, despite their small size, had solid economies per capita.
-Developing-catching up. For example, Russia, Austria-Hungary and Japan, partly Portugal and Spain.
– Retarded without signs of development. For example, Liberia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Bolivia, Montenegro.
