3. Mixed flax massifs are formed in a temperate climatic zone (moderate continental climate) with a clear change of seasons – relatively hot summers and cold winters. The average annual rainfall here usually reaches 600-700 mm. With insufficient evaporation, excessive humidity and swampy areas are observed.
4. The main tree species of mixed forests are European spruce, birch and Scots pine, broad-leaved – linden and oak; Aspen, ash, elm, maple and hornbeam also grow. In Western Siberia, the zone continues with a narrow strip of birch and aspen forests separating the taiga from the forest-steppe. Of the animals, roe deer, wolf, marten, woods and squirrels are often found.
5. As a result of human economic activity, natural landscapes give way to anthropogenic landscapes. Forests have been cut down, and minerals are being extracted intensively.
