Describe the role of the main factor in the reproduction of mosses.

On the body of an adult moss, reproductive organs are formed – archegonia and antheridia. In archegonia, one female gamete grows, which is motionless. Millions of male gametes grow in antheridia. Female gametes are fertilized by male ones only in the presence of water. Female gametes are immobile and cannot unite with male gametes without water. When they connect, the development of the sporophyte will begin. The sporophyte looks like a box on a high leg that rises above the moss. If there is enough water, this capsule opens and pours out spores, which will later turn into adult moss.
