The world transport system consists of several regional transport systems and has a homogeneous structure. Thus, the density of the transport network in most developed countries is 50-60 km per 100 km² of territory, while in developing countries it is 5-10 km. It employs over 100 million people, transports over 100 billion tons of cargo and over a trillion passengers.
