Determine the classes of compounds and give the names of the substances: 1) HCHO 2) CH3-CH2-CH2-CH3 3) CH3-CH2-CH2-COOH

1) HCHO – formic aldehyde or methanal, belongs to the class of aldehydes, since it has an aldehyde group – CHOH;
2) CH3-CH2-CH2-CH3 – butane (C4H10), refers to saturated hydrocarbons or alkanes (hydrocarbon because besides carbon and hydrogen it does not contain other elements, limiting because it does not have multiple bonds);
3) CH3-CH2-CH2-COOH – butanoic or butyric acid, belongs to the class of carboxylic acids, because it contains a carboxyl group – COOH (butanoic, since it has 4 C atoms).
