| In order to find the coordinates of the point of intersection of the graphs of the functions given by the equations y = 4x – 20 and y = 5x – 30, we solve a system of these equations.
System of equations:
y = 4x – 20;
y = 5x – 30.
We will solve the system by the substitution method. Let’s substitute in the first equation instead of y the expression from the second equation.
System of equations:
5x – 30 = 4x – 20;
y = 5x – 30.
We solve the first equation of the system:
5x – 4x = -20 + 30;
x (5 – 4) = 10;
x = 10.
System of equations:
x = 10;
y = 5x – 30 = 5 * 10 – 30 = 50 – 30 = 20.
Answer: (10; 20).
