Determine the mass fraction of zinc in technical zinc, if 896 ml of hydrogen were released

Determine the mass fraction of zinc in technical zinc, if 896 ml of hydrogen were released during the treatment of 2.64 g with a solution of sulfuric acid.

The training of zinc sulfate is described by the following equation:

Zn + H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + H2;

The amounts of zinc dissolved and hydrogen produced will be equal.

Let’s calculate the molar amount of synthesized hydrogen. For this purpose, we divide the volume of gas by the volume of 1 mole of ideal gas filling the volume of 22.4 liters.

N H2 = 0.896 / 22.4 = 0.04 mol;

To synthesize this amount of hydrogen, 0.04 mol of zinc must be dissolved.

Let’s calculate its weight.

M Zn = 65 grams / mol;

m Zn = 0.04 x 65 = 2.6 grams;

Mass for zinc is 2.60 / 2.64 = 0.984 = 98.4%;
