| Determine the mass of ammonia obtained by the interaction of 28 g of nitrogen with hydrogen, if the yield of the reaction product is 50%.
1. The formation of ammonia is illustrated by the reaction equation:
3H2 + N2 = 2NH3;
2. Nitrogen is the initial reagent, by its mass we determine the theoretical chemical amount:
ntheor (N2) = m (N2): M (N2) = 28: 28 = 1 mol;
3. Let’s set the amount of received ammonia, excluding losses:
ntheor (NH3) = n (N2) * 2 = 1 * 2 = 2 mol;
4. Let’s calculate the actual amount of gas produced:
npr (NH3) = ntheor (NH3) * ν = 2 * 0.5 = 1 mol;
5. Let’s calculate the mass of the product:
m (NH3) = n (NH3) * M (NH3);
M (NH3) = 14 + 3 = 17 g / mol;
m (NH3) = 1 * 17 = 17 g.
Answer: 17 g.
