Determine the mass of magnesium formate, if it is known that 60 g of formic acid enter

Determine the mass of magnesium formate, if it is known that 60 g of formic acid enter into the reaction a) 25 g, b) 30 g of magnesium.

Magnesium formate is a salt of formic acid and magnesium. To solve the problem:
1) we write the equation: 2 НСООН + Mg = (HCOO) 2Mg + H2
2) find Mr formic acid and magnesium formate –
Mr (HCOOH) = 2 + 12 + 32 = 46, Mr ((HCOO) 2Mg) = (1 + 12 + 32) * 2 + 24 = 114.
3) according to the reaction equation, from 46g of acid, 114g of formate is formed, according to the condition from 60g – xg
4) make up the proportion and find x, x = 60 * 114/46 = 148.9 (g)
5) determine how much Mg has entered into the reaction:
According to the equation, 24g reacts with 46g of acid, and xg with 60g, hence x = 60 * 24/46 = 31 (g)
