| 1. Let’s compose the equation of the proceeding reaction:
2HCOOH + 2Na → 2HCOONa + H2 ↑;
2.Calculate the chemical amount of sodium:
n (Na) = m (Na): M (Na) = 4.6: 23 = 0.2 mol;
3. according to the reaction equation, the stoichiometric coefficients in front of sodium and its formate are equal, we determine the amount of formate:
n (HCOONa) = n (Na) = 0.2 mol;
4.Calculate the mass of sodium formate:
m (HCOONa) = n (HCOONa) * M (HCOONa);
M (HCOONa) = 1 + 12 + 2 * 16 + 23 = 68 g / mol;
m (HCOONa) = 0.2 * 68 = 13.6 g.
Answer: 13.6 g.
