| Find the mass of the solute:
m (salt) = m (solution) × w (salt) = 50 × 0.01 = 0.5 g;
We find the mass of water as the difference between the masses of the solution and the solute:
m (water) = m (solution) – m (salt) = 50 – 0.5 = 49.5 g.
Answer: m (salt) = 0.5 g; m (water) = 49.5 g.
