Determine the oxidation state of the elements in the compounds – V2O5, H2O, WO3, K2O.

To determine the oxidation state of elements, consider each compound in more detail;

1). V2O5 – contains the compound (O) oxygen, and oxygen has a constant oxidation state (-2). Since this compound contains 5 oxygen atoms, respectively, and its oxidation state will be:

О5 = 5 * (-2) = -10, oxygen oxidation state;

If oxygen has an oxidation state (-10), then vanadium will have an oxidation state (+10), since 2 molecules, respectively, will be (+5).

2). H2O, oxygen has an oxidation state (-2), which means hydrogen has oxidation (+2), since 2 molecules are responsible (+1);

3). WO3, oxygen has an oxidation state (-2), since 3 molecules will be (-6), which means vanadium has an oxidation state (+6);

4). By analogy with water (H2O), the oxidation state of potassium will be (+2), since the 2 molecules are respectively (+1).
