Determine the set of chromosomes for horsetail gametes and horsetail spores.

The life cycle of a horsetail looks like this: spore – pregrowth – gametophyte (overgrowth) – gametes – zygote – sporophyte (leafy plant) – spore.

In spore plants, spores are formed as a result of meiosis and have a haploid set of chromosomes. Their spores grows into a pre-growth, which turns into a gametophyte. In this case, cells divide by mitosis, which means that all cells retain a single set of chromosomes. Gametes are formed on the outgrowth. This also occurs as a result of mitotic division. Gametes are haploid.
