Determine the time and place of meeting of two bodies, the equations of motion of which have the form: x1 = 25 + t and x2 = 85 – 0.5t

1. The coordinates of two bodies at the meeting point must have the same value:

x1 = x2;

25 + t = 85 – 0.5t;

t + 0.5t = 85 – 25;

1.5t = 60;

t = 60: 1.5;

t = 40.

2. The coordinate of the meeting can be calculated by any of the equations; calculating for both, for one and check the result:

x1 = 25 + t = 25 + 40 = 65;

x2 = 85 – 0.5t = 85 – 0.5 * 40 = 85 – 20 = 65.

Answer: the bodies will meet in 40 units of time, at a point with a coordinate of 65 units of length.
