| Determine the volume of hydrogen sulfide obtained by the reaction of 162.5 g of zinc and sulfuric acid using the equation Zn + H2SO4 – ZnSO4 + H2S + H2O
The reaction of zinc sulfide with sulfuric acid is described by the following equation:
ZnS + H2SO4 —> ZnSO4 + H2S;
Let’s calculate the molar amount of zinc.
M Zn = 65 grams / mol;
N Zn = 162.5 / 65 = 2.5 mol;
The same chemical amount of hydrogen sulfide will be synthesized.
Let’s define its volume.
For this purpose, we multiply the molar amount of gas by the volume of 1 mole of ideal gas filling the volume of 22.4 liters.
V H2S = 22.4 x 2.5 = 56 liters;
