Determine what types of root systems are found in plants.

Dicots form a root canal system called a tap root system and is made up of one main root called a root vegetable. The rectangle of roots grows vertically into the growing medium and is usually deeply rooted. It is supported by the smaller roots of the branches that grow from it.
Monocots form a fibrous root system and have no main root. This system is called the fibrous root system. The roots are thinner and grow closer to the surface of the growing medium.
